Client: Hilton Grand Vacations

Role: Lead UX/UI Designer

Timeline: 6–8 Weeks

Tools: Figma, Miroboard, Midjourney

Overview

A virtual concierge app concept and prototype developed for Hilton Grand Vacations to incorporate as part of their services. Project done during my time at Presidio Network Solutions.

Context

Context

Hilton Grand Vacations sought a one-stop app for its users, leveraging the power of Agentic AI to help users plan, own and enjoy their vacations. The app concept evolved from an engaging booking app to a unique and helpful offering for owners booking their stays only through Hilton Grand Vacations.

Problem

Problem

How might we provide users complete ownership of their vacations, saving them time and effort so they can enjoy their vacation?

Research

I consolidated the client's needs, wants, and observations from the innovation workshop into user personas, empathy maps, and storyboards to get in the headspace of how a user would navigate and benefit from the app. This directly led to feature development.

Focusing on a solo traveller's journey showed us how some users may already know the properties and the surrounding area and want to find hidden gems.

This user persona prioritizes spontaneity, convenience, and clarity.

Focusing on a family traveller's journey showed us how some users, who may have some familiarity with the area, instead need to cater to their family, whether due to different ages, interests, or the unexpected.

This user persona values preparation, options, and saving time.

Hilton Grand Vacations aims towards attracting families... So my solution focused more on the family persona, but I added in features great for both kinds of users!

Key Insights

Key Insights

1.

Users plan to make the most of their vacation, but they are not able to cater to their/their families' different interests because of a lack of awareness of options around them.

2.

Users follow their itineraries to save time, but are wasting time looking for open reservations and tickets instead of being present.

3.

Users have many tools to help plan vacations, but would prefer a one-stop app that handles booking, planning, and reminding.

Key Features

Everything you need to know, at your fingertips
  • Book experiences with the app, taking you to the right places to buy tickets or reserve a table– never go looking for it yourself.

  • Let Voyagent handle scheduling–just tell it what you want to do and where you want to go, and it will tell you the best timing for you.

Know what's next, always
  • Dynamic notification island on home screen tells you what's next, so you don't have to go looking for it.

  • Plans change, so can the itinerary. With your confirmation, the app can reschedule, or find the best things to do, rain or shine!

Your room, your way
  • Hands full? As soon as you check in, your room key will always be available on your screen, no more fumbling around or freeing up both hands to unlock your room.

  • The app's on your smartwatch, so you can get notified without needing to pick up your phone.

Impact

  • Showcased the "art of the possible" to a potential client in order to sign them on.

Reflection

This prototype was crucial for the development team and digital signage team to showcase agentic AI capabilities, and to sign on the client by showing them what we could do. I had never built a prototype of this scale with less time left in our project timeline, but I learned more of Figma capabilities and how to speed things up without sacrificing quality.

The app went from a booking app to an app that stays with you from booking, planning, experiencing to rebooking. There were many tradeoffs between development and the prototype, as well as business vs. user needs. I learned that the best apps evolve over time with great collaboration with stakeholders.

Although this app did not go into full production (bummer, I know!), it did lead to other projects for the client since they were impressed with what we could do, which was another bittersweet learning for me. One door opens another!

Making two different personas for the family-traveller user was crucial. I realized the solution had to cater to multiple interests within the same family for an enjoyable vacay.
I always have so many things I want to do on my vacation, but by the time I figure out what to do when, that time is already gone! This would totally help me too.
